The short answer

Bodrum is a relaxed port where you can walk to the castle in about 20 minutes. The castle holds the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Taxis are cheap and handy in the heat.

Money

Turkish lira (TL). Many ticket offices charge in lira or by Visa/Mastercard; at Ephesus euro and dollar cash are not accepted at the ticket office (secondary source).
