Volos is docked, but the port is in an industrial area, so use the shuttle or a taxi to town. Meteora is about 2 hours away each way, so a ship tour or a pre-booked private driver is the safe choice. Volos itself and the Pelion mountain villages are easy and close.

- Option A (Meteora): meet your pre-booked driver at the terminal at first gangway time.
- Drive about 2 hours to Meteora; visit 2 monasteries and a viewpoint.
- Leave Meteora with at least 3 hours before all-aboard.
- Option B (easy day): shuttle to town, coffee on the promenade, taxi to Makrinitsa for lunch, back to the ship 45 minutes before all-aboard.
What goes wrong, and how to avoid it
Beware
- Meteora is about 4 hours of driving round trip; a traffic delay can make you miss the ship.
- Monasteries close one day a week each (days unverified) and some close midday.
- Many steps up to the monasteries.
- Port is in an industrial area; you can't walk out easily.
Do this
- Choose a ship tour for Meteora so the ship waits if you are late.
- Bring a wrap skirt or scarf for monasteries.
- Tsipouro with small plates (meze) is the local tradition.
Fees, money and access

Accessibility
Meteora monasteries have many stairs. Volos promenade is flat. Pelion villages are cobbled and steep.
