The short answer

Almería is docked about a 10-minute walk from the centre. The star sight is the Alcazaba, a huge Moorish fortress on the hill above town, reached by about 200 steps. It is an easy, uncrowded port day.

Wise counsel

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • Heat and steps at the Alcazaba.
  • Shops close mid-afternoon (13:30–16:30).

Do this

  • Go to the Alcazaba first thing.
  • Granada and the Alhambra are over 2 hours away: too far for most port days.
