The short answer

The North Cape is about 33 km from where you dock, so you need a bus, tour or taxi. The weather there is often foggy, cold and windy. A fee to enter the plateau was ruled invalid in July 2026; check what is charged when you go.

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • Fog can hide the view completely.
  • Cold and very windy, winter jacket, hat, gloves even in July.

Do this

  • Check the webcam/forecast in the morning; if fog is thick, consider the town instead.

Fees, money and access

Rules & fees

  • On 2 July 2026, the County Governor overturned the 2025 permit that let Scandic Hotels charge an access/parking fee on the North Cape plateau. On 7 July 2026, a new municipal decision from 11 June 2026 was put on hold while an appeal is heard. Result: the plateau fee could not be collected as of July 2026. Whether paid exhibits inside North Cape Hall still charge is unverified.
  • Norway has no cruise passenger tax in 2026. A national fee of NOK 100 per passenger per 24 hours in port is proposed from January 1, 2027, if approved (reported by The Local Norway, March 2026). Norway's separate local tourist tax of up to 3% applies to hotel stays, not cruise passengers.

Accessibility

Plateau area near the hall is reachable by bus. Ground is exposed and uneven away from the paths.

Money

Norwegian krone (NOK). Cards (tap-to-pay) are accepted almost everywhere, even for small amounts. You rarely need cash. Tell your bank you are traveling.
