The short answer

Kristiansand is a docked port right by the city. You can walk to the fish market, old town and the new Kunstsilo art museum. A shuttle runs on many days.

Wise counsel

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • Kristiansand Zoo (Dyreparken) is outside town and makes a full day; leave plenty of margin.
  • Rain is common; most sights are outdoors except Kunstsilo.

Do this

  • Kunstsilo opens at 11:00, so do the outdoor sights first.
  • Fish soup or shrimp on bread at the fish market is the local lunch.
Practical matters

Fees, money and access

Rules & fees

  • Norway has no cruise passenger tax in 2026. A national fee of NOK 100 per passenger per 24 hours in port is proposed from January 1, 2027, if approved (reported by The Local Norway, March 2026). Norway's separate local tourist tax of up to 3% applies to hotel stays, not cruise passengers.

Accessibility

Docked, flat city grid. Cruise Norway says many seafront paths, museums and galleries are wheelchair accessible.

Money

Norwegian krone (NOK). Cards, including tap-to-pay, work almost everywhere. Many places take no cash. Bring a card with no foreign transaction fee.
